The Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution for Victims of SARS Related Abuses and Lekki Toll Gate Incident will not be sitting today because of the Lagos Marathon, FIJ has learnt.

The panel, which holds on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays started its sitting on October 26, 2020 and has 123 unheard cases, 112 partly heard cases, 38 cases with judgement, and has awarded seven cases of damages to the tune of N43.75million.

The Access Bank Lagos City Marathon place today has however stopped today’s sitting, as the roads would be blocked because of the marathon.

Mrs Bose Onifade, the mother of Emmanuel Pelumi Onifade, was to attend today’s sitting. Pelumi was a 20-year-old journalist who was covering the #EndSARS protests and filmed the viral video of Olusegun Abiodun Bolarinwa who shot into a crowd of protesters in Abule Egba on October 20, 2020.

Since October, Mrs Onifade has not seen the body of her son. She had done a DNA test to confirm she was the mother of Pelumi, but the body of her son is yet to be released to her.

The postponement of today’s sitting means she has to wait till the next sitting, where she hopes the Lagos State Judicial Panel will give her justice.
