Akintunde Olubayode, an Abuja-based public servant, has accused Air peace and Zenith Bank Plc. of holding on to his ₦50,749.99, after he got debited for a flight booking he made in March but never received value.

Oluboyade told FIJ that he made the booking on March 18 and was immediately charged ₦50,749.99 on the airline’s booking platform.

“I waited endlessly for the airline’s website to generate a flight ticket for me but it failed to do so. They debited my account immediately but did not give me my flight ticket,” Oluboyade said.

The public servant said he had to make another payment so he could get the flight ticket he needed for his journey.

“I paid using my Zenith Bank ATM card on the airline’s website. When I couldn’t get value for the first payment I made, I lodged a complaint to the airline. I also sent a complaint to the Central Bank. I was later informed by the airline that the case has been escalated,” Olubayode said.

“I also approached Zenith Bank, where I have my account, to report the case. They replied that they have started working on my request.”

Olubayode said both the airline and the bank are yet to resolve his complaint, one month after.

“Both Air Peace and Zenith Bank have refused to refund my money. It has been over a month and they have not refunded my money. I have sent several mails to Air peace and I also visited several Zenith Bank branches on this issue. Yet, I have not made any headway,” he said.

“The latest (message) I got from Air peace is that I should tell my bank to message them directly about the missing money. I visited their branch at National Assembly in Abuja on two occasions last month.

“When I got to Akure this month, I visited their Alagbaka Branch. Upon all, no solution.

“The latest branch I visited on Friday is at the University of Ilorin, during my trip to Kwara State. In the end, Zenith Bank said the money is with Air Peace.”

“Fifty thousand naira may be small, but it means a lot to me! These people are stealing from us and it’s high time we said no to their mischievous acts and mediocre services!

“Poor customer services, unannounced rescheduling of flights, excess charges from the banks! Yet they try to rip us off!”

FIJ called both Air Peace and Zenith Bank for comments, but their phone lines failed to connect. At press time, they had also not responded to text messages sent to them.
