Segun Folorunsho, who parades himself as a staff member of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), has promised to assist a female student of the school in ‘upgrading her result’, in exchange for either money or sex.

Mary Bolatito (not real name), a first year student of the institution, told FIJ that Folorunsho contacted her last week, promising to upgrade her results if she would either pay a certain amount or have sex with him.

She said Folorunsho claimed to be a staff member of the institution’s Centre for Information Technology and Management (CITM).

In a bid to prove his status like he claimed, he sent Bolatito a copy of a result he had allegedly manipulated in the past. The result belonged to one Praise Apishie, a part-time Office Technology Management (OTM) student of the institution.

He also showed her a screenshot of conversations from a WhatsApp group he claimed operates with other students of the department, who also needed help in ‘result modification’.

“He said if I don’t have money, then I should give him my body,” Bolatito said.

“I asked if I could come to his office in CITM, but he said it was out of bounds to students, and that I should meet him in his other office at Airport Hotel, Ikeja.”

The student said she also requested to be added to the group he operates with his other clients at OTM, but he declined, saying she was yet to supply him with a matriculation number.

When this FIJ called Folorunsho on the phone, and in the guise of a student attempting to manipulate a result, he demanded N50,000 to change a bad result to a better one.

However, after a few minutes of negotiation, he said, “If you get 40k (N40,000), you fit bring am.”

FIJ contacted Segun Oladipo, IT head in the CITM, and he denied knowledge of Folorunsho. Oladipo said, “For where? Capital 419. Let us call him out as a fraud.”

FIJ’s independent checks show that Folorunsho is known on campus and seen around by staff and students, but when the institution’s staff portal was visited, Segun Folorunsho was not listed as a member of staff.

FIJ has also obtained a 2020 WhatsApp conversation between Prince Monday Ehuwa, a senior lecturer at the institution’s Department of Languages, and a female student of the Mass Communication Department.

In the conversation, Ehuwa asked the student, who pleaded anonymity, to come “sleep over” with him after ‘her period’.

“Can you sleep over when you finish your thing?” Ehuwa asked in the chat.

When the student asked him what he was referring to, he said, “I thought you said you were on your monthly visitor.”

FIJ later obtained a copy of YABATECH’s Sexual Harassment And Other Forms Of Gender-Based Violence Prohibition Policy.

The policy described sexual harassment as ‘sexual advances, whether or not they involve physical touching.’

When FIJ sent Ehuwa a text message for comments, he said, “Your story is not true, and stop disturbing my line. If you are ‘sent’, I will advise you to think twice.”

FIJ had earlier reported how several present and past students of YABATECH accused a lecturer of sexually assaulting them.

Joe Ejiofor, Public Relations Officer of the institution, told FIJ that the Sexual Harassment Committee of the college had reputable people on its panel, and it was looking into that matter.
