Sterling Bank has finally made a refund of N39,000 to Nkechi Okutu, a customer whose money was withheld after making a transfer from the bank’s mobile application on April 15.

Okutu confirmed receipt of the money to FIJ on Monday.

“Sterling Bank has finally refunded my money. I feel really happy. Thank you very much, FIJ,” a delighted Okutu said.

FIJ had earlier reported how Okutu, a petty trader in Ibadan, Oyo State, transferred the amount from her Sterling Bank account to her Kuda Bank account on the said date, hoping to purchase goods needed for her business with it.

After effecting the transfer, the money left her Sterling bank account but never impacted her Kuda Bank account.

When she visited a Sterling Bank branch in Ibadan to lodge a complaint, an official told her that the transaction was successful from their end.

She was also advised to liaise with Kuda in order to know the exact status of the transfer she made.

Kuda would however tell her that the money was yet to impact the account she operates with them.

Without providing a lasting solution to her plight, both banks would ‘toss the customer around’ for close to three weeks, her business suffering a setback as a result.
