King Jabulani, a Twitter user, has detailed how officials of the Oyo State Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) extorted N45,000 from him for failing to have a ‘haulage sticker’ at the back of his vehicle.

In a series of tweets on Monday, Jabulani said the officers pulled him over while driving in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, and asked for his vehicle particulars.

The Twitter user said the officials returned his documents to him when they saw that they were complete.

“To my greatest surprise, the third guy said the bus did not have the Oyo State haulage sticker,” he wrote.

Jabulani said he had travelled within the state on several occasions and had never heard that he needed a special kind of sticker.

“He stated that he works for the state government. This was how he dragged us to the Oyo State Government Secretariat at Agodi, Ibadan,” he said.

“On getting there, they told us that we would pay a ₦25,000 fine for not having the sticker. At first, I thought it was a joke.

“They said we were using the bus to carry loads. The Oyo State government fined my farm bus ₦25,000 for not having a sticker and an extra ₦20,000 for the sticker.”

FIJ made calls to the Oyo State Government, but they were not answered. A text message sent to them had also not been responded to at press time.
