Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice President of Nigeria, has deleted a post on Twitter, where he condemned the barbaric killing of Deborah Yakubu, a female student at the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto.

Fellow students believed to be her coursemates assaulted her and burned her remains on Thursday for ‘saying unacceptable things about Prophet Muhammad’.

In a video that surfaced online on Thursday, one of her attackers admitted in Hausa language that he lit the fire that burned the student to death.

“There cannot be a justification for such gruesome murder. Deborah Yakubu was murdered, and all those behind her death must be brought to justice. My condolences to her family and friends,” he said.

Under the tweet, many northerners said they would not support Atiku’s ambition in the forthcoming election. Following the comments, Abubakar deleted the tweet.
