Graduates of Ekiti State University have cried out over the school’s negligence in handling demands for academic transcript.

Some of the ex-students, while speaking with FIJ, said they had lost several post-graduate admission opportunities as a result.

Narrating his experience on Sunday, Orimoloye Olumide, who graduated from the Department of Accounting in 2017 said he had paid for his transcript since September 22, 2020, but was yet to get it.

“I missed a post-graduate admission last year and another this year as a result,” he said. “I was informed last year that my transcript was being sent to my department to include a score, then after waiting for months I sent someone to help follow up from there.

“After she had done all that was required, they said they were going to send it back to the transcript office for a smooth process. Since then, I’ve got nothing.”

In her own account, a lady who graduated from the Department of Microbiology in 2017, said she was on the verge of losing a UK admission over the school’s failure to produce her transcript.

The lady, who does not want to be named, initiated her transcript collection process on March 12, when she paid N10, 000 to EKSU’s Transcript Office.

“My school in the UK sent a letter last week, giving me 14 days ultimatum to submit my transcript. Now, I have just seven days to meet up or lose the admission.

“It’s actually negligence on the part of EKSU. My sister, who helps with the processing, said she sometimes met staff chatting or pressing phones at the office. When you talk to them, they won’t even answer you.”

A representative of EKSU Students Complaints Unit, however, said that such delays could be attributed to the long COVID-19 break.

Speaking with FIJ on phone, the representative, who refused to mention his name, said much of the delay could also have been caused by the recent bouts of staff-management rancour in the school.
