Some Nigerians on social media, displeased over the persistent insecurity challenges in parts of the country resulting in the loss of lives and properties and displacement of many, on Thursday criticised the Federal Government’s call for Israel and Palestine to end hostilities and ensure the right of citizens to live in peace

According to a statement by Ferdinand Nwonye, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nigerian government was concerned about developments and asked Israel and Palestine to de-escalate the hostilities.

“The Nigerian Government further urges the two parties to remain committed to the two-state solution and, in the meantime, guarantee the rights of all citizens to live in peace and dignity,” the Foreign Affairs Ministry stated.

The round of conflict between Israel and Palestine, which had been on for many years, boiled over this week following moves by the former to evict Palestinian families from their homes near the Old City in Jerusalem. About 83 Palestinians have been killed and more than 480 wounded, while seven people have been killed on the Israeli side.

But some Nigerians taunted the Federal Government for interfering in the Palestine and Israel conflict when many of its citizens, afraid of been attacked by bandits and terrorist groups, have fled their homes to Internally Displaced Persons camps.
