Thugs brought in 50 trucks are waiting to launch an attack on the Kaduna office of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), its President, Ayuba Wabba, has said.

Wabba made the statement on Channels Television’s ‘Sunrise Daily’ on Wednesday morning.

“As I speak to you this morning, in fact, the security agencies are already there, they have hired about 50 trucks of thugs to try to invade the NLC State office where our people are already converging. Is this democracy?” Wabba asked.

“The security agents are there; they are taking pictures of all the vehicles and all the people… Yesterday, those people that were hired to actually carry placards we have the record, they were paid N500. In fact, I have them on clip. Our people went to interview them. They are youths; most of them are below the age of 17.”

The NLC issued a strike notice over the state government’s move to sack a large number of its work force over paucity of funds without following due process, which Wabba said was stipulated in Section 20 of the Labour Laws, including notifying the union before beginning the action. He also said the union ought to have been notified of the reason and the scope of the mass retrenchment.
