The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested one of its officers for assaulting a teacher who disciplined his daughter over unacceptable hairstyle.

Speaking with FIJ on Sunday, ASP Sunday Abutu, spokesperson of the command, said the officer was expected to go through orderly room trial on Monday.

The officer identified as Sergeant Agenoise Elijah allegedly stormed Mary Immaculate Girls School with some of his colleagues on Friday to question the audacity of the school authorities to reprimand his daughter for wearing a different hairstyle from the one prescribed.

The enraged officer was said to have torn the dress of the female teacher directly involved, and harassed the school principal.

In a statement released by ASP Abutu on Saturday, the Ekiti State Police Command said it had commenced investigation into the infraction and that the police officers would not go unpunished if found guilty.

“The command, while confirming that the police sergeant and his colleagues who went to the school to cause chaos have been identified, states that discreet investigation has commenced as ordered by the Commissioner of Police and the officers shall not be spared if found guilty,” the statement reads in part.
