Ukraine’s defence ministry made a video with a message that Russian soldiers in Kherson either run or die on Wednesday.

In the video posted on its official Twitter account, the ministry encourages Russian troops to abandon their occupation of Kherson. The video, titled ‘A Message to Our Russian Guests Currently in Kherson Oblast’, is a reproduction of ‘Run, Rabbit, Run’, a song by Noel Gay and Ralph Butler.

The defence ministry had claimed that its soldiers broke through Russia’s first line of defence in the Kherson region as part of a counter-offensive to retake the south of the country.

Kherson was the first major Ukrainian city Russia took control of. Russian troops advanced into the region from the Crimean Peninsula and have occupied the city ever since.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, had warned Russian forces to flee the battlefield.

“If they want to survive, it is time for Russian soldiers to flee. Go home,” Zelenskyy had said.

A spokesman for Ukraine’s southern operational command told reporters that its troops had destroyed 13 Russian command posts, three ammunition depots and a bridge over the Dnipro river.

The Russian invasion has lasted over seven months and Ukrainian cities have served as battlegrounds. Millions of residents have fled Ukraine, and the unending fight threatens global food security.
