19.09.2022 Featured JUST IN: Court Sentences Evans to 21 Years in Jail for Kidnapping

Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Ikeja Special Offences Court has sentenced Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, to 21 years imprisonment for kidnapping Sylvanus Hafia.

Taiwo read the judgement on Monday, bringing an end to a trial that has been running since 2017.

Also sentenced was Victor Aduba, co-defendant in the case and Evans’ accomplice.

Both men were accused of conspiracy and abduction of Sylvanus Ahanonu Hafia at about 5:30 pm on June 23, 2014, at Kara Street, Amuwo Odofin in Lagos, and demanding a ransom of $2 million.

Both men pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.

Evans was arrested at his residence at No. 3, Fred Shogboyede Street, Magodo, Lagos, on June 10, 2017, and was first arraigned in court on August 30 the same year.
