20.09.2022 Featured Amid ASUU Strike, First Lady Celebrates Zahra Buhari’s Graduation From UK University

Zahra Buhari, a daughter-in-law of President Muhammadu Buhari, graduated with first class honours in architectural science from a UK university on Tuesday.

Zahra’s graduation was made public when Aisha Buhari, her mother-in-law and first lady of Nigeria, congratulated her on Facebook.

“Congratulations to Mrs. Zahra B Buhari on your graduation with First Class Honours in Architectural Science,” the Facebook message read.

With this, Zahra, wife of president Muhammadu Buhari’s son Yusuf, joins the list of public office holders whose kinsmen have graduated from foreign schools amid the ongoing ASUU strike.

In August, ASUU declared a total and indefinite strike action following an initial six-month shutdown of the nation’s public universities over unmet demands by the government.

The union, through Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, its president, said it had experienced a lot of deceit in the last five and half years. It continues to engage the government in fruitless and unending negotiations.

ASUU’s demands include the revitalisation of public universities, payment of earned academic allowances and the deployment of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) for payment of university lecturers’ salaries, among others.
