Gunshots from security operatives have killed a protesting student of the Kaduna State College of Education.

The student and his fellows were protesting the sudden hike in their school fees when security operatives started shooting sporadically.

One of the students, an eyewitness, told Daily Trust that security operatives opened fire on them as they staged a peaceful protest outside the college at Gidan Waya in Jema’a Local Government Area of the state.

FIJ understands that two more students are also feared killed while many others have been arrested by the security operatives.

This is coming few days after parents and guardians of students of Kaduna State University (KASU) were forced to sign an undertaking that their children would not participate in a protest against an increase in their school fees.

The school, following directives from the state government, had threatened that any student who participates in such protests would be expelled.

The students had staged protests against the tuition fees increase for weeks, asking Nasir el-Rufai, the Governor of the state, to reverse it to enable indigent students continue their studies.
