Trustee Okorefe, a Delta State-based satellite installer and technician, has accused Wallets Africa, a cross-border payment platform, of withholding his N80,850 after a failed transaction.

Okorefe told FIJ he had funded his Wallets Africa account with N80,850 on September 21 to buy some items online.

“I wanted to order some items from Aliexpress, so I decided to fund my wallet. I immediately transferred N80,850 from my PalmPay app to my wallet so I could go on with my transaction,” Okorefe said.

”It showed me the transaction went through successfully. However, the money did not reflect in my wallet, neither could I find it on my dashboard.

“Since then, there has been nothing to show for the transaction I made. My money just seems to be gone to nowhere.”

Okorefe said he called the company multiple times but they kept telling him they were working on it.

“Whenever I called them, they would tell me I should exercise patience, that they were working on it. Till now, I have not got my money back,” he said.

FIJ contacted Wallets Africa and spoke to Victoria, a customer service representative, who said that Okorefe indeed called them to complain several times about the issue.

“He indeed called us and I gave him a response when he reached out to me. It was a bank-to-bank transfer, and this type of issue takes time to be resolved,” Victoria said.

”Unfortunately, on the day he did the transfer, there was a glitch and he was unable to receive the money into his wallet. We are still looking into it, and I told him to hold on and exercise patience.

“The issue was reported to our finance team, and it will be worked on. It is not as if we are holding his money unnecessarily or trying to tie his money down.”
