The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is faced with the problem of non-alignment of numbers and patching of Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) questions caused by the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) personnel.
Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB registrar, stated this at the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) office at Ogba, Excellence Hotel Bus Stop, Ogunnusi Road, Lagos.
During a telephone conversation with some of the technical team members overheard by FIJ, Oloyede lamented the ‘nonchalant’ attitude of the staff and ICT personnel.

He noted that he had predicted the challenges but nothing was done to address them on time.
“I predicted that the non-alignment of numbers was going to be problematic and I warned the ICT personnel about it,” he said.
“How would the candidates be having 001, 002, and so on as their designated numbers? We’ve been conducting exams since Tuesday and nothing of such happened.”
He mentioned names of employees such as Okoro, Lawal, Geoffrey, some of whom were not available at the start of exams around 8:00 am.
Part of the phone conversation went thus: “I told you that I envisaged this problem, but you did not do anything. Look at how you have held the whole nation at ransom. What did I tell you about the nonalignment issue?
“What you are doing is damaging the country. You have very nonchalant attitude to work. How will you tamper with a working system? What is the solution now? How do you know that patch you have not tested is going to work? What you are doing is destroying the image of the board. You have disrupted the second session.”

The registrar further noted that only 204 out of the 317 centres in the state had started their examination as of 8:44 am.
FIJ learnt that the exam scheduled for 8:00 to 10:00 am would now be completed by 11:30 am, while candidates who started theirs later than 9:oo am would finish at 1:30 pm.
Meanwhile, when FIJ visited another exam centre at WAEC Office, Agidingbi area, where candidates were delayed as well, parents and guardians complained that they had to pay N100 to use the toilet.
