The Department of State Services (DSS) has been accused of physically assaulting a yet-to-be-identified 60-year-old expatriate waiting to pick up his visa at the Ethiopian Embassy.

In a five-minute video shared by @Elle, an X user, on September 30, the victim’s wife said her husband was inside his car parked within the Ethiopian Embassy in Abuja when the agency’s officials dragged him out and assaulted him.

“My husband is not a ‘Yahoo boy’. He works for an international organisation where he is an expatriate to them,” the victim’s wife stated in the video.

“My husband went to the Ethiopian Embassy in Abuja to pick up his visa and while he was waiting in the car, he was working on his laptop, the DSS men came and took his laptop and phone away from him.

“They began to beat him and took him away.”

The expatriate’s wife further said the DSS agents took him to their office where he showed them his ID card.

“After he showed them his ID card, they returned him to the Ethiopian consulate and began to beg and apologise to him. They said they are fighting terrorism [sic],” she said.

“I am using this medium to call those in power, those in the DSS head office, those who control the boys. See what your boys are doing.

“Your boys are beating up my husband. He is managing his health. He only went to pick up his visa.

“He was responding to work emails when they forced him into their van, took him away, undressed him, blow his face until it swelled [sic].

“DSS should look at his laptop. He is not a ‘Yahoo boy’. Even the Ethiopian consulate commented that the way he was treated was inhumane.

“They said they thought he was a ‘Yahoo boy. He is bleeding o. My husband cannot breath o. I cannot take care of my children alone o.

“The DSS men then began to beg him afterwards.”

On Wednesday, FIJ reported how DSS officials in Benin assaulted and threatened to kill Douglas Ogbankwa, a lawyer, who demanded to witness his client’s interview with the officials.
