Aku Microfinance Bank has refunded N20,000 to Nkechi Nkire, one of its Lagos State-based agents.
This was after FIJ intervened in a failed bill payment dispute between the digital bank and the agent on Friday.
Nkire had made an unsuccessful Ikeja Electric (IKEDC) bill payment worth N20,000 on behalf of a customer via Aku’s payment platform. According to the agent, the transaction was made on September 19.

When the sum was eventually returned to the bank’s position on September 21, it failed to credit the agent’s wallet with it. This made Nkire send several emails to the financial institution demanding for a refund, but her request was not treated.
The digital platform continued to ignore the agent’s refund request till she reached out to FIJ on the matter on October 5.
FIJ, in turn, sent a mail to Aku on the matter on Friday. The mail was subsequently responded to by one of the institution’s officials who simply identified herself as Somadina.

The official, in her response, said the matter was receiving attention, and that feedback would be directly provided to Nkire.
Thirty minutes after the official’s response, Nkire called FIJ to say she had received the N20,000 refund from Aku.
“I have just received the N20,000 refund from Aku. Thank you so much, FIJ. This would not have been possible without your intervention. Thank you so much,” Nkire said delightedly.
