Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) has refunded N166,000 to Abdullah Arogundade, the Plateau State resident who was debited twice after failed payment for his brother’s IELTS exams.

The refund came a day after FIJ published a report on the company’s refusal to refund the money despite his pleas.

An elated Arogundade told FIJ that the company refunded his N166,000 in full on Wednesday evening.

Speaking with FIJ, he said, “Good evening. I got my refund this evening. Thank you very much.”

Arogundade had wanted to pay the sum of N83,000 for the exams on October 23, 2022, through his GTB MasterCard, but the transaction was declined. He tried it the second time, but it was also declined. His brother had to find an alternative.

Arogundade, however, got debited twice after five days.

He told FIJ that he had contacted the GTB several times and visited the bank’s branch in Jos to complain but nothing was done.

FIJ reported the incident on Wednesday, and the GTB customer got credited the following day.
