The popular Instagram page @flourish_empire is run by fraudsters who block customers after receiving payments from them, FIJ can report.
On Wednesday, Ruth Uchechigbo, a tweep, narrated how she was scammed via the Instagram page which claims to sell varieties of design and fashion products.
Ruth said she wanted to buy a mannequin from the page but was blocked after paying N57,000 into a Fidelity Bank account number with the name Oseni Bamidele.
The page currently has over 30,000 followers and pictures of various mannequins, generators, steamers, sewing machines and other things. However, most of its posts have less than 50 engagements, comments and likes combined.
The page’s history also revealed that it had used two different names, @success_ventures and @godstime.ltd, before the current one.
Although the page’s name was changed, the fraudsters’ mode of operation remains the same. In 2021, a Twitter user said she made a payment for some design and fashion items and was blocked afterward. Unlike Ruth, the tweep was asked to pay into an Access Bank account belonging to one Balogun Abubakar Victor.
Earlier this year, the page scammed N105,000 from a lady.
When FIJ called the phone number displayed on the page, it was switched off. The page’s handler also blocked our account on WhatsApp after reading an enquiry from us.
