An accident that occurred along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Saturday night has killed at least three people.
A commuter who prefers to be addressed as Feranmi told FIJ that the recent accident caused traffic congestion along the route while she was travelling to Osun State in the early hours of Sunday.

Feranmi said, “Everywhere was still dark. I know it was after Mowe, and it was close to a turning point.
“There was a holdup. Vehicles were turning back before we got there, and we were even wondering what was happening.
“So, when we got there, we saw that trailers were on a straight line. The road was blocked too. As we moved further, we saw that some trailers had fallen sideways. We saw some officers there too.”
Another commuter, who does not want to be named, told FIJ that a vehicle was facing the bush.
“Our bus did not wait, but as we passed by the accident scene, I saw a vehicle, though I’m not sure of the type, facing the bush,” he said.
Local reports state that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State confirmed that three people died and seven others sustained injuries in the accident.
According to reports, the accident involved two vehicles, a Toyota Hiace bus and a trailer. It occured at 9:23 pm close to the Conoil filling station on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
The accident was also said to have been caused by speeding, which led to a loss of control on the bus driver’s part.

Following the news trail of road accidents on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, FIJ had found that at least 64 people had died while plying the route in 2023 alone. This recent accident brings the number to 67
