Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have demanded the cancellation of the party’s primary election held in Ondo State on Saturday.

The party members, who are supporters of four different governorship aspirants – Chief Olusola Oke, Wale Akinterinwa, Jimi Odimayo and Folakemi Omogoroye – stormed the state’s party secretariat on Sunday with placards and also called for the suspension of Ahmed Ododo, the Governor of Kogi State, from the party.

The supporters claimed that they were protesting against their stolen mandate as what was conducted in the state was a far cry from an election.

Adeniran Oyebade, Director General for Olusola Oke Campaign Organisation, Ondo Central Senatorial District, told the media that APC’s primary electoral officers failed to show up in all wards of the state but stayed in Akure to forge the results.

“We are protesting against our mandate that was stolen. It was a broad-day light robbery, a monumental disaster. APC delegated some people to Ondo State to conduct the primary; apparently, that was never done,” Oyebade said.

“They remained in Akure and started writing results. They wrote the results of 203 wards all across Ondo State, taking the mandate of the people into their own hands.

“At the end of the day, we started seeing different results flying around stating one particular candidate won the election, but that never happened. APC as a party is about to set Ondo State on fire, and we will never take this as likely.

“We want the most popular candidate, a candidate that knows the people; we want the candidate whose name is a household brand in every part of Ondo State.

“Ododo should be suspended from the party. Ododo is a criminal and a thief. In a saner clime, Ododo by now will be in jail. Election crime is a serious crime. You cannot come to the wards of our people and start terrorising them against their will.

“What we want is the cancellation of the election because any election did not take place. There is no need to say that the election was inconclusive.”

Meanwhile, Ododo, chairman of the committee that organised the election, had said fresh polls should be conducted across all the 13 wards of the state’s Okitipupa Local Government Area today. He said he had received valid reports that the primary was not held in the LGA.

“Having received reports of the primary election from the 203 Wards in the 18 Local Governments of Ondo State, the Primary election Committee has decided that election will be conducted in all the 13 Wards of Okitipupa Local Government with total validated registered members of 9,515 because of validated reports that the exercise did not hold in the Local government due to late arrival of materials and personnel as a result of logistics challenges,” Ododo said.

“Election in Okitipupa Local Government shall be conducted at 12 noon on Sunday, April 21, 2024. The final collation of the results will be done thereafter.”

About 16 candidates, including Lucky Ayedatiwa, the incumbent governor, are in a race to become APC’s flag bearer in the November 16 state election.
