The Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, Ondo State, is set to commence hearing on Rahmon Adedoyin’s appeal against the death sentence handed to him by a high court in Osun State over the murder of Timothy Adegoke.

Olugbade Adegoke, Timothy’s brother, made this known to FIJ on Tuesday.

Timothy, an Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, MBA student, died under mysterious circumstances in late 2021 at Hilton Hotel and Resorts, one of the hotels owned by Adedoyin.

According to the deceased’s brother, an appeal hearing on the matter is expected to start on March 5.

“I recently got a call from Falana and Falana, the law firm representing our family, on the matter,” Olugbade told FIJ.

“During the conversation, the lawyer that spoke to me said Tuesday, March 5, 2024, had been fixed for the commencement of the hearing expected to hold at the Court of Appeal in Akure, Ondo State.”

In May, 2023, the High Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, sentenced Adegoke, a renowned multibillionaire and industrialist who is also the Maye of Ife, to death for playing a major part in the student’s death.

Adegoke had travelled from his base in Abuja to Ile-Ife on November 5, 2021, to write his MBA exams at the OAU Distance Learning Centre. When friends and family members no longer heard from the student two days after he had confirmed his arrival in Ile-Ife to them, he was declared missing.

Later, Adegoke’s body was found in a shallow grave at a location very close to Hilton Hotel and Resorts, where he had been accommodated.

Investigations conducted by the police later revealed that Adedoyin was one of the student’s four killers.

After bagging a death sentence, the business mogul filed an appeal in June 2023.
