Julianah Aluko, an Osun-based cashier, has detailed how her salary for the month of April was stolen from her United Bank for Africa (UBA) account.

Aluko told FIJ that N40,966 was withdrawn from her account on April 29, hours after she was paid her salary for the month.

“On April 29, N40,966 was paid into my account as my salary for that month,” Aluko said.

“Prior to this, I didn’t tell anyone I was to be paid. I closed from work and went home. Around 3 am, I got some notifications on my phone, but I didn’t check because I assumed they were from the network provider.”

The cashier said that when she checked her phone after daybreak, she was shocked to see that her entire salary had been withdrawn and sent to one Emm Joe, whom she did not know from anywhere.

Aluko said that she visited the branch of the bank at Olonkoro, Oshogbo, to complain but the bank didn’t take actions to resolve the fraud on her account.

“I am worried that all I worked for in April has been taken from my account without thought. I worked, only for it to be stolen from my UBA account,” she told FIJ.

“I have also reported to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), but I haven’t received a response. I am so worried.”

When FIJ sent an email to UBA on Monday, Motunrayo, one of the bank’s customer representatives, acknowledged the email and requested the customer’s account details.

“Please provide us with the customer’s account number and transaction details to enable us investigate further,” the bank wrote.
