Lagos State resident Idowu Olugbemi has described how she was conned out of N2.5 million by Adaobi Mbah, the proprietor of Bonex Parks, a business that purports to provide caretaker services and training to potential clients.
Olugbemi told FIJ that she first learned of Adaobi Mbah from an online advertisement announcing that she and her sister, Chika Nwachkwu, were travelling to Lagos from their base in Abuja to plan an April training programme for potential carers.
“Adaobi Mbah and her sister Chika Nwachucku came from Abuja to Lagos on April 22 to train us on the caregiving profession. The training itself was themed ‘Caregiver Immigration Consultation,'” said Olugbemi.

“Each participant at the training paid N150,000 to her and her sister as programme organisers. After the training, she again posted an advert that she wanted to help people interested in caregiving as a profession process Canadian visas.”
Olugbemi expressed interest after hearing Mbah’s statement and subsequently paid a N2.5 million deposit.
“On June 7, my sister and I made a deposit of N1.25 million each to Mbah,” Olugbemi said.
“The agreement we had was that the sum of N1 million each person paid was refundable in the event that the processing did not work. The N250,000 was non-refundable, as it was described as the money for logistics and other expenses.

“She also promised us that the sum of N1 million each would be returned to me and my sister if the processing did not work after four months. After we paid the N2.5 million, Mbah collected our international passports but later returned them to us.
“All of a sudden, she stopped chatting me, and her number stopped going on September 27 this year. When I later called her sister, she told me she (Mbah) went for surgery, but after some days, and like Mbah, she also blocked me on all platforms.
“Mbah and her sister have been working together to defraud unsuspecting people, using visa processing for professional carers as bait. She and her sister have since deactivated their social media handles.
“Since then, Mbah has fled with our N2.5 million. She is currently nowhere to be found.”

A search carried out by FIJ showed that www.bonexparks.com, Bonex Parks’ website, is still very much active.
However, Mbah and Nwachukwu’s social media handles have been deactivated. Mbah also used the GTBank account number 0127258554 with the account name that carried her maiden names NWACHUKWU ADAOBI STEPHANIE to receive the payment.
FIJ made several phone calls to Mbah and Nwachukwu on Monday morning for comments on the matter, but their lines were unreachable. The text and WhatsApp messages sent to the two had also not been responded to at press time.
