A medical doctor at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Delta State, has revealed that no bullet was found in the eyes of two-year-old Eromonsele, who was hit by a bullet released by an officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The doctor said this when Sheriff Oborevwori, Delta State Governor, visited the hospital to check on the family of the boy.
“They did x-ray first of all. Luckily, there was no bullet [around there]. But we are going to do other investigations to see the extent of the [impact]. We can’t say for now. We succeeded in covering the eye so that there is no infection. Later, we are going to do further investigation to know the state of the eye,” one of the physicians handling his treatment said on Monday.

Oborevwori condoled with the family and charged the NDLEA “to investigate the case to know what happened and bring the culprit to book”.
Operatives of the agency were said to be raiding an illicit drug hotspot in Asaba, the state capital, on Saturday, when one of them fired a bullet that hit Ivan Omhonria, the two-year-old’s brother, who died at the spot. The bullet also brushed one of Eronmosele’s eyes.
According to news reports, the two brothers were with their mother, Omhonria Hilda, after returning from school when an NDLEA officer allegedly fired a shot in their direction.
Hilda explained to journalists that she was tending to her kids on the said day. She said she suddenly saw one of them lying on the floor with his internal organs out.
The NDLEA confirmed the development and explained that its officers were on a raid to demobilise an escaping drug dealer in a Toyota Camry car, causing them to shoot.
“A team of NDLEA operatives carried out an intelligence-based raid of the joint of a notorious drug dealer located at Okpanam area of Asaba at about 1600 hours on Thursday 13th July and in the process of the operation, a Toyota Camry 2008 model, light blue colour at the scene suddenly zoomed off and knocked down one of our officers who is currently in critical condition, undergoing treatment in a hospital,” Femi Babafemi, the agency’s director, media and advocacy, said in a statement on Saturday.
“In a bid demobilize the car and prevent it from escaping, another officer fired a shot aimed at the tyre of the car, which eventually escaped. While the injured Officer was rushed for treatment, the officers got reports of a stray bullet hitting a young person and immediately located the father of the victim, followed him to the hospital and supported in facilitating his treatment but unfortunately died in the process.
