The Directorate of State Security (DSS) has laid siege to the office of Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, according to Leadership newspaper.
Operatives of the agency stormed the premises of the apex bank in Abuja on Monday fully armed and prevented staff members of the bank from gaining access to the governor’s office.
The DSS had been seeking a court order to arrest and grill the CBN boss, who is currently away from Nigeria, over terrorism allegations.
The DSS, however, denied the reported invasion in a statement released by Peter Afunanya, its spokesperson, on Monday evening.
“The attention of the Department of State Services (DSS) has been drawn to the false news making the rounds that its operatives invaded the Central Bank of Nigeria and arrested its governor today 16/1/2023. This is fake news and quite misleading,”the statement reads.
