Two children died under the weight of a collapsed building on Alao street, Isawo, Ikorodu area of Lagos, on Saturday.

Rescuers were too late in their efforts to save the children under the rubble.

Ibrahim Farinloye, the southwest spokesperson for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), confirmed the incident in a statement.

The building collapsed as it rained heavily on Saturday morning.

“The children aged nine and seven were trapped when the fence from the neighbouring house fell on their building during the day’s heavy downpour,” Farinloye stated on behalf of NEMA.

Although the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) and other emergency personnel eventually got to the scene, it was yet another instance of a collapsed building claiming residents’ lives in Lagos.
