Dozens of terrorists have died after the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram attacked each other between Dikwa and Bamal local government areas of Borno State on Thursday.

Zagazola Makama, a Lake Chad-based security analyst, told Daily Trust that there were casualties on both sides.

“A heavy fight ensued between the terrorists, resulting to dozens of casualties on the side of the Boko Haram terrorists, while few ISWAP terrorists were wounded,” Makama said.

“The Boko Haram terrorists took to their heels, leaving their motorcycles to the ISWAP terrorists.”

A security source named Kundu as one of the terrorists involved in the attacks.

Kundu, a commander within the Boko Haram sect, and his team met ISWAP terrorists who intercepted them on about six motorcycles.

Eight among those killed in the attack, which lasted for days, were members of local vigilantes, while the 10 others were residents of the area.

FIJ learned the insurgents were trying to extend their reign to other districts in the LGA.
