Akeem Adesola, a Lagos-based economist, has accused Access Bank of failing to take responsibility after an unauthorised transaction occurred on his account.
The economist told FIJ that although he had neither used Access Bank’s USSD code on the account nor registered an ATM card for it, Access Bank could not give him reasons an unauthorised transaction occurred.
He said he was robbed in late June and within an hour after the operation, the thieves made away with N100,000 in his account.

“I never thought the thieves could have access to it because the account does not have an ATM card, neither had I used the USSD code,” Adesola told FIJ.
“I wanted the account to be for savings alone. So, I was surprised the thieves could access my account and wipe it out. I have approached Access Bank but nothing has come out of it.”
Adesola said that Access Bank did nothing apart from telling him the account name, number, and bank to which the thieves transferred his money.

“The fault is from Access Bank because someone remotely entered the Access Bank USSD code on an account I had never used the code on, and it worked,” he said.
“The bank told me they used USSD, but I have personally never used USSD on the account.”
When FIJ contacted Access Bank via email, they claimed to have contacted Adesola, but said he received no calls from the bank.
