Chiamaka Ifezue, an Enugu State resident, is to die by hanging, according to a judgement of an Enugu State High Court delivered on Wednesday.
Ifezue was found guilty of killing Ijeoma Nneke, a career beautician, on November 11, 2020.
Ifezue and Chukwuemeka Ifezue, her brother, were in court together on a two-count charge of conspiracy to commit murder and murder before the trial court.
Justice K.I. Okpe, who presided over the case, discharged and acquitted the convict’s brother on the basis that there was no evidence linking him to the murder. She found Ifezue to be directly involved in the killing of the 27-year-old beautician. According to the judge, the prosecution team from the Department of Public Prosecution proved a case of murder against Ifezue beyond reasonable doubt.
Ifezue and her sibling allegedly compelled the deceased to drink a poisonous liquid in 2020, leading to her death. They later dumped her body in the Maryland area of Enugu South Local Government Area and poured acid-like chemicals on it.
The police tendered exhibits, which they said were recovered from the scene of the murder. The exhibits were a Blackberry phone, iPhone 7 Plus with an MTN subscriber identification module (SIM) card, five pieces of 20 British pounds and one other iPhone device.
Other items were an Itel phone, a damaged 9Mobile SIM card, an unnamed black handset, an MTN SIM pack and some makeup tools owned by the deceased.

News made the rounds in 2020 that the convict and her brother conspired to kill the deceased for allegedly dating Ifezue’s boyfriend. Before killing her, Ifezue had invited her for a makeup job, and she had obliged them unaware of their evil plan.
When she sensed danger, she reportedly messaged a friend before she was forced to drink the poisonous substance.
