Sunday Adeyemo, the Yoruba Nationa agitator popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has been arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

According to PUNCH, he was arrested by the security forces in Benin Republic at an airport in Cotonou on Monday night.

Igboho’s arrest came almost three weeks after the Department of State Services (DSS) declared him wanted for allegedly stockpiling arms.

Like Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, who was apprehended outside the country, Igboho would also be repatriated to Nigeria on Tuesday from Benin Republic.

“He was arrested in Cotonou while he tried to travel out on Monday night. His destination was Germany. The security forces in Benin Republic should repatriate him to Nigeria on Tuesday,” Punch quoted a source as saying.

Before now, the Nigerian government had failed in the mission to arrest Igboho, both in his house on July 1, 2021 and while he was en route to Lagos for a meeting with Ayo Adebanjo, the leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere.

The government would later place the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Nigeria Customs Service on alert to stop Igboho from leaving the country.

Peter Afunanya, the spokesman of the DSS, was yet to respond to a text message for comments on the matter.
