Kehinde Akinola, an Abuja-based public servant, has detailed how Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) refused to return N97,750 to her account after she was debited for a failed transaction.

Akinola told FIJ that the incident happened in March while she was trying to buy two flight tickets for her sister and her niece.

“While attempting to buy two Arik Air Abuja-Lagos flight tickets for my sister and her daughter using my GTB card on March 18, I was debited but no booking reference was generated,” Akinola told FIJ.

“After several hours of waiting to see whether the booking reference could still be sent to me, I was forced to contact Arik Air to confirm the status of the transaction.

“It was at this point that I was told that they had not received any payment from GTB. I was forced to make another payment with my First Bank debit card, and this time, the transaction was successful and I could generate booking reference for the flight.

“On March 20, GTB would send me a debit notification for the N97,750 transaction that was unsuccessful.”

Since the incident, and despite reaching out to GTB several times over the matter, the public servant’s money has not been refunded to date.

“I have sent several emails to GTB, but they have refused to refund my money. At one point, they issued a response, promising me that my account would be credited within three days. That has not been done, and no solution in sight. They have held my money for four months.”

FIJ sent an email to GTB’s customer service desk on Friday morning, but it had not been responded to at press time.
