Emmanuel Abiodun, a Lagos-based businessman, has narrated how the Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) refused to refund his N9,100 after a failed Point of Sales (PoS) transaction.
Abiodun told FIJ the sum was debited when he attempted to pay for an item on Valentine’s Day.
“On February 14, I was at Edge Supermarket in Lekki to purchase an item worth N9,100,” he told FIJ.

“At the point of payment, their PoS rejected my card and declined the transaction.”
He stated that despite the decline, his account was instantly debited.
“Although the transaction failed, I was instantly debited,” he said.
“I expected GTB to reverse the amount after about 48 hours, but it’s one week already and I haven’t received anything from them.
“I had to issue another payment to save myself from embarrassment at the supermarket.”
While FIJ’s email to GTB was not responded to, on Twitter, the bank asked to liaise with the account owner.
“We sincerely empathize with you on this experience. Kindly advise the account holder to send us a DM @gtbank_help,” the bank wrote.
