The wife of Lagos tenant, Lawrence Ifeanyi, whose pharmacy was allegedly set on fire by his landlord, has expressed hope for justice.

Speaking with FIJ, the woman said the landlord is already in custody of the Panti Police Station, Lagos.

She said, “We were asked to report at the state CID. They invited both parties. The criminal was brought to the boss’ office. We were all there. He needed to answer a few questions. They asked him, ‘Oga why did you do it?’ And he said, in quote, ‘They want to kill me. They poisoned my cups and my spoons’. He’s not denying it. Let it be on record that he’s not denying it.”

“I got so emotional watching the man say it to my face, our face, unapologetically. It’s very traumatic. The police have been there and they know how to judge the crime scene. The police boss said we shouldn’t worry, that all hands were on deck to bring justice to us. They have been there and they know how to judge the crime scene. That was before he confessed in the office yesterday.

“He said they are working to charge him to court. That should be by next week. So, we are really hoping to get justice because I don’t know what happiness is all about again. It is very traumatic for me. It is very traumatic for us. I am scared of the night. I don’t sleep at night because it happened at night. So, I am traumatised. When night is coming, I start to get very scared. I sit down all through the night because I am scared. If I ever dare sleep off, I jump up and start to scream. My husband will hold me saying it’s okay. I don’t know how to describe the experience.

“Suing him to court and demanding compensation is part of the justice we are seeking.

When FIJ reached out to the state CID to confirm the claims, an officer said he could not reveal such information over the phone. “You can come over and meet with the sectional head handling the case to give you the brief,” he said.

FIJ had reported how John Okechukwu Nwaimo, Ifeanyi’s landlord, allegedly burnt down his pharmacy in the Ogombo area of Lagos.
