Oyediran Quadri, a student of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), has accused iLoveNaira, an online money lending platform, of harassing him.

Oyediran told FIJ that he downloaded the iLoveNaira app on March 30 when he was in dire need of money and requested a loan of N50,000.

“When I requested the loan, they told me to wait so they could check if I was eligible. While I was still waiting for the result of my eligibility, iLoveNaira sent N5,600 to my account,” said Oyediran.

He explained that he called iLoveNaira immediately and requested their account number. He said, “I requested their account number immediately when I saw an alert of N5,600 instead of the N50,000 I earlier asked for. I sent the money to them that same day.”

Oyediran asserted that iLoveNaira started disturbing him to pay an interest of N3,000 after a week of making a refund to them.

“After a week, I started getting messages from them to pay the interest on the loan after I had returned their money. It became worse when they started sending messages to my contacts on WhatsApp,” said Oyediran.

He said one of their customer care representatives reached out to him on WhatsApp, asking him to call a number on the app and narrate his plight.

“I had to download the app again because I had uninstalled it when I didn’t need their service anymore. When I reached out to the contact, no response was given. Now, they are harassing me everywhere — even when I did not use the money,” he explained.

FIJ sent an email to iLoveNaira but they had not responded at press time.
