The Edo State House of Assembly has impeached Philip Shaibu, the state’s deputy governor.

During Monday’s plenary, the house received a report prepared by the seven-man investigative panel set up by the state’s chief judge.

The panel had investigated Shaibu for misconduct and found him guilty after he failed to appear before it on Friday. Relying on this, the house voted to impeach him.

Shaibu had endured a strained relationship with Godwin Obaseki, the state governor, and rumours of his impeachment had gained prominence.
