The Supreme Court has declared Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the Osun State 2022 governorship election.

Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had approached the court to reverse the March 25 judgment of the Court of Appeal in Abuja which affirmed Adeleke’s victory in the election.

But in its ruling on Tuesday, the Supreme Court upheld the appeal court’s ruling.

A source, who asked not to be named, told FIJ that the court dismissed all the evidence adduced by Oyetola.

“The court said the BVAS machine is the vocal point for the proof of over-voting, so it held that the appellant failed to prove over-voting,” he said.

“The Supreme Court also held that Register of Voters is cardinal to the process of accreditation and, as such, over-voting could not be proven without it. It also held that since the BVAS does not operate in isolation of voters register, voters register is relevant to the conduct of elections.”
