On Wednesday, July 12, Basilia Onyejegbu, the DPO of the Isheri-Oshun police station in the Ijegun area of Lagos State, led a team of policemen on a raid of New World Hotel in the area.
A resident had earlier reported a robbery case to the police, sources told FIJ. The police arrived at the scene and arrested five people, but the number could have been six.
FIJ earlier reported how the police extorted ₦200,000 from some of the arrested men in the guise of bail.
One of the victims has now provided video evidence of three of the policemen harassing an aluminium installer and stripping him on the road. The video was not added to this piece as it is offensive.

“We all know him in the neighbourhood as Eco,” this source told FIJ. “He regularly comes to my house to clean my pond and tend to my poultry. On that fateful day, he was passing when he saw the police arresting us.
“They grabbed him and began to rip his shirt off. When they were done pulling off his shirt, they began to pull his trousers off as well. They pulled until he was stark naked.
“He kept asking what he did, and why they were assaulting him, but the officers refused to provide any explanations, read him his rights or treat him with respect. When he was naked, they then let him go. It was all a bid to humiliate him and show their force.”
FIJ sent the video to Onyejegbu and called to ask for her reaction, but she asked that we reach out to Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command.
We called Hundeyin on Monday, but he did not take our calls. We sent him the video on WhatsApp and sent a text message, but as of press time, he had not responded.
