Five months ago, Faisal Adam, a recharge card retailer based in Kano State, purchased data worth N30,000 from ClubKonnect, an online retailing service but he he never received value for his money.

Adam told FIJ that he contacted the company several times but they claimed not to have received the money he sent.

Explaining how he got into this issue with ClubKonnect, Adam explained that he transferred N30,000 from his Palmpay account to his ClubKonnect wallet, a Wema Bank account. He expected to receive the equivalent value in data but he did not receive it.

Adam said that he contacted the retailing service to inquire about the delay in receiving the data he paid for but received no satisfactory response.

“The first time I contacted them, they promised to investigate. Later on, they began to assert that they did not receive the N30,000,” Adam told FIJ last week.

Concerned that the issue might have originated from Palmpay, Adam contacted Palmpay to check the status of the transaction and he learnt that the transaction was indeed successful.

Adam continued to contact ClubKonnect to inquire why he had not received the data he paid for, given that the transaction was successful from Palmpay. He received no direct response.

“The transaction was successful but the money has not reflected in my wallet to date. I have contacted them several times, but all my efforts have been unsuccessful,” Adam lamented.

Left with no other option, Adam reached out to ClubKonnect’s host bank, Wema Bank, to inquire whether they had received the N30,000 or not. Wema Bank informed him that such a question should be from ClubKonnect and not him, a ClubKonnect customer.

“Upon realising this, I contacted ClubKonnect again but they would not listen to me. Wema Bank asked me to request ClubKonnect’s statement of account for March 13, but they refused to provide it to me,” Adam said.

When FIJ attempted to contact ClubKonnect for comments via their customer care line, this reporter followed all the instructions but there was no respondent available to answer our questions.

FIJ checked with Adam on Sunday and the situation was unchanged.

ClubKonnect had not responded to FIJ’s text message at press time.
