Idongesit Joseph Zion, a Nigerian citizen, has been sentenced to one year imprisonment for attempted rape by a court in Bali, a province of Indonesia.

According to Daily Mail UK, Zion was found guilty of attempting to rape an Australian woman at a popular beachside night club in the area.

The incident was said to have happened at the Nigerian’s accommodation at Jalan Teuku Umar, in Central Denpasar, Bali, on December 2, 2022.

Court documents revealed Zion had lured the Australian to his accommodation after falsely claiming he was booking her a motorcycle taxi that would take her back to her hotel.

Before the incident, the two had first met at a night club in the company of two other people — the Nigerian’s friend and the Australian’s sister.

The Australian was said to have lost interest as the conversation wore on and attempted to leave.

Zion would follow her, offering to order an online motorcycle taxi that would take her back to her hotel. Believing she was returning to her own hotel, the Australian accepted the offer, only to be taken to the Nigerian’s accommodation where he would attempt to rape her.

She was, however, able to escape the attempt through the help of her sister and Zion’s friend and the police was subsequently alerted.

Zion was sentenced by the court on July 6.
