A fire outbreak in Onitsha main market, Anambra State, has razed multiple shops and destroyed properties worth millions of naira.

The fire, according to sources, started in the early hours of Tuesday morning and quickly spread across the market.

The source of the fire remains unknown, but sources told FIJ that it burnt a fire service building in the area as well.

Most affected by the fire was the White House building, a storeyed building in a section of the market that hosted offices of leaders of the market on its top floor and a lace market on the ground floor.

In a video sighted by FIJ, a witness can be heard shouting, “See fire, see fire. Jesus!”

FIJ called the Anambra State Fire Service for comments, but they had not responded as of press time. They also did not respond to a text message sent to them.
