Victor Oke, a final year student of the political science department, Osun State University, has been set ablaze for refusing to join a cult group.

It was gathered that unsuspecting cultists shot and macheted Victor during the weekend and set him ablaze before he was rushed to the hospital.

A statement signed by Ademola Adesoji, the university’s public relations officer, and released on Monday confirmed the incident while calling for the immediate arrest of the cultists.

“We noticed that Victor was absent for his final paper in the afternoon and decided to contact his parents,” the statement reads in part.

“It was later discovered that he was attacked by unknown cultists in the early hours of Saturday. Victor was shouting that he was not joining their cult group while they continued to hit him with cutlasses [and] hard stones, and attempted to burn him, partially succeeding before he was eventually rescued.

“The university security unit is currently working with the police to ensure the culprits are exposed and brought to book. The cultists must be arrested.”
