Popoola Kayode, a marketer resident in Suleja, Niger State, has accused Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) of withholding his N600,000 for four years.

Kayode told FIJ that he paid N600,000 to a company he would later discover to be fraudulent in 2018, and that he immediately filed for a chargeback after learning of the company’s ways.

He said he reached out to Paystack and asked them to end the transaction, but Paystack told him he could only do that through his bank.

“After communicating with the two entities, Paystack told me they had done the needful. They told me to contact my bank. This was in September 2018. But after I contacted GT Bank, they told me they would refund my money within some time,” he said.

“At first, they promised to reverse my money within 48 hours, but they never did. To date, they are yet to reverse it. Before I gave up, they kept saying they would reverse it in 24 hours, but the hours never came.”

He said he got tired of GT Bank’s failure to reverse his money and contacted Paystack. According to him, Paystack claimed to have sent the N600,000 to GT Bank. He stated that Paystack even sent him proof that they issued a refund to his account in September 2018.

“Paystack sent it. They sent me the proof that they paid in September 2018. My money is with GT Bank, but I do not know why they are holding on to it,” he said.

FIJ called Cornelius Onuoha, one of GT Bank’s consultants, but he did not answer his calls. He had also not replied to a text message sent to him at press time.
