The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has deleted a post praising Atiku Abubakar, its presidential candidate for the 2023 general election, after a reaction by Oby Ezekwesili, a former Nigerian minister and founder of @fixpoliticsnig.
Ekwesili had described the post, in which the PDP claimed Atiku “assembled and presided over the most competent economic team in Nigeria’s history”, as false and misleading.
A picture of Abubakar and Ekwesili, among other key players in the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo between 1999 and 2007, accompanied the controversial post on Tuesday. Also in the picture were Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Charles Soludo and Nasir El-Rufai.

Okonjo-Iweala is the current Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and former Nigerian Minister of Finance. Soludo, the current Governor of Anambra State, was the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) under presidents Obasanjo and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
El-Rufai, now Governor of Kaduna State, was the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory from 2003 to 2007, under Obasanjo.
Ezekwesili denied the claim and asked the PDP to remove the post immediately on Tuesday morning.
“It might be an innocent mistake, but this statement is false and therefore misleading. He (Atiku) did not,” part of Ezekwesili’s tweet read.
