A number of journalists, publishers and free press advocates on Monday converged on the national headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) demanding the release of Daniel Ojukwu, an FIJ reporter.

On the order of the police’s highest authorities, some police officers abducted Ojukwu on the streets of Lagos on May 1, denying him access to his family, employers or lawyers for three days.

On Thursday morning, the peaceful protesters marched to Louis Edet House, the police headquarters, holding placards bearing different inscriptions touching on the freedom of the press and fundamental human rights of journalists all aimed at calling on Kayode Egbetokun, the inspector-general of police (IGP), to immediately release the abducted and detained investigative reporter.
