Abba Kyari, the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, has reportedly faulted members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) for his troubles.

According to Daily Trust, Kyari told a police panel led by Joseph Egbunike, a Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), that the groups were out to destroy him for fighting them in the south east.

“It is a campaign to smear his reputation by members of IPOB/ESN who vowed to destroy him due to his onslaught against them in the south east,” a report submitted by the panel to Usman Alkali Baba, the Inspector General of Police, was quoted in part.

However, the panel described Kyari’s defence as watery and recommended him for demotion to Assistant Commissioner of Police.

Kyari was declared wanted and sebsequently arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Monday over links to an international drug cartel. The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had earlier fingered him in a $1 million scam.
