A lady named Mirriam Bassey on Friday narrated how she was saved from the deathtrap set by Uduak Akpan, the self-confessed killer of Iniubong Umoren, with the offer of a “classified job”.

During a public parade on Friday afternoon, Uduak Akpan confessed to killing Iniubong, a graduate of the University of Uyo, and says a similar fate could have befallen her.

From their Faceboo chats between late November and early December 2020, it was clear Frank tried to convince Mirriam to interview for a role that would involve doing some “classified” activities on four of the five hectares of land at Oron Road in Akwa Ibom state.

“Some people have five hectares of land and I use one hectare for their integrated farm, then the remaining four at the back for a kind of depo [sic],” Akpan had told the job-seeker.

He continued by saying: “What this depo [sic] is for is where your trust comes in. The depo [sic] is classified. And a lot of things go on there. It’s not something I’ll want to talk about on Facebook but if I can trust you and we’ll work together.”

When the lady showed reluctance, Akpan emphasized that he would be paying her N55,000 and could even send a driver to convey her to the interview venue.

“I can’t believe you need a job and I can message you [that] I want to see you, then you say ‘not now please’; it’s ironical,” he said in a last-ditch effort to convince her.

Another lady Blessing Godwin had earlier shared how she got the same job invitation from Akpan but couldn’t honour it because she was far away from the location.

The late Iniubong was bured on Friday amid cries and renewed calls for justice against her killers.
