A yet-to-be-identified soldier has pulled his riffle’s trigger, killing Danna Abdulrahaman Mohammed, a 28-year-old businessman; an infant and two other women whose identities are unconfirmed in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
An eyewitness told FIJ the soldier, who seemed to be drunk, was with one of his colleagues at a military checkpoint in Mafa town when the incident happened on Wednesday.
“No one knows what transpired, but we just saw him opening fire on a commercial car heading towards them,” he said.

The bodies of the deceased were moved to Mafa General Hospital where Danna’s family were contacted.
Abdulrahman Muhammad, Dana’s brother who spoke with FIJ, disclosed that the businessman was en route to Gamboru-Ngala LGA, Borno State, when his life was shortened.
One of the deceased’s sisters, Fadila Abdulrahman, told FIJ Danna was shot in his head.
According to him, Danna has been buried according to Islamic rites. He added that the identities of the other victims were yet to be confirmed.
Onyenma Nwachukwu, spokesperson of the Nigerian Army, did not respond to FIJ’s calls. At press time, he had also not responded to an enquiry sent to him.
Similarly, Sani Kamilu, the Borno State police spokesman, did not respond to calls and a text sent to him
