Taiwo Adebulu, Features and Investigations Editor of TheCable, is the only Nigerian shortlisted for the 2023 Fetisov Journalism Awards (FJA).
For his story titled, ‘Forced to Wed: Inside the Horror-Filled World of Nigerian Schoolgirls Abandoned In Captivity’, Adebulu made the shortlist alongside 25 other journalists from 20 countries across the world.
His story, recognised under the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Peace’ category, one of the four categories in the award.

Announcing the shortlisted journalists in a statement on its website, the organisers stated that about 400 entries from 96 countries were submitted for the 2023 edition of the award.
According to the organisers, the names of the winners in the four categories will be announced at the 5th Annual Fetisov Journalism Awards ceremony in April 2024.

The first prize winner in each category will receive a money prize of CHF 100,000 while the second and third prize winners will receive CHF 20,000 and CHF 10,000 respectively.
Adebulu’s report chronicled the unpleasant experiences of female students of Federal Government College (FGC) Birnin-Yauri, Kebbi State, who were kidnapped by bandits in 2021, abandoned in captivity and forced to marry their captors.
